Children in Old Porvoo
At the turn of the 20th century, Porvoo was a quiet riverside town known for its cobbled streets, wooden houses, and long history. It had been a bishop's seat since the 1700s and played a significant role in Finnish cultural life. In this photograph, we see Vuorikatu—a narrow, sloping street in the heart of Old Porvoo.
A group of children appears along the street: standing by doors, leaning against walls, peeking around corners. On the right is a wooden sign for a photography studio—Valokuva atelieri—run by Natalia Linsén, one of Finland’s first female professional photographers. There’s a quiet energy here, a moment of everyday life paused in time.
This photograph is part of the Porvoo Museum’s collection, which preserves visual records of the town’s rich history.
